Gordon Watson Award

The QRJCC Club Champion Award was re-named the Gordon Watson Award during the 2008/09 season in recognition of Gordon’s Achievements and his wonderful service to cricket.  Gordon’s interest to cricket began as a scorer in the 1950/51 as there wasn’t a junior team where he lived.  However, he started playing in 1951/52 with the Wickepin Cricket Club.  He played 8 seasons there (3 as a captain) until 1960.  He was also a club delegate for 2 seasons.  In 1952 He Captained the Junior Country week side – Wickepin/Narrogin.  He was the Wickepin Association Delegate for 3 years.  He was with the Kondinin Cricket Club for 5 seasons from 1960- 1966, 1 as Captain.  He was Club President for 3 seasons (1963/63 , 1963/64 and 1964/65).  In 1961/62 Gordon was selected in the Eastern Districts Combined side again the Western Australian State side.

 

Kalgarin-Hyden Association;

  • Played 6 Country Weeks (1 as Captain)

  • Helped form a new club (Albany Country in 1968)

  • Was Albany Country Club President, Delegate and Captain for 10 seasons

  • Won a Premiership in 1970/71

 

Albany Association

  • Played 12 Country Weeks (10 in A Grade) and won 5 – 1967,1971, 1973, 1975 & 1977

  • Runners up twice – 1968 & 1972

  • B Grade Captain of winning Carnival team in 1976, with a batting average of 84

  • Association selector for 3 seasons, 1960/61, 1970/71 and 1975/76

 

West Perth (M.C.A)

  • Played for 5 seasons (3 in A Grade and 2 in B Grade)

  • Won MCA batting aggregate and average 1979/80 – 523 runs at an average of 47.5

 

City Beach (M.C.A)

  • Played for 4 seasons (2 as Captain) 1983/84 to 1986/87

  • Best batting average in the 1984/85 season.  Became Life Member in 1985/86

 

Quinns Junior Cricket Club

  • Gordon also coached the Quinns Rocks Junior cricketers from 2001/02 to 2006/07

  • Gordon Became a Life Member of QRJCC in 2006/07

Players are eligible to win this award from Under 13's onward.

Each run counts as 1 point, every wicket 12.5 points and every direct hit run-out, stumping and/or catch 10 points

At the end of the home and away season the player with the most points will become the Club Champion and will receive the Gordon Watson Award
